Salome with the Head of John the Baptist (Sebastiano del Piombo)

John the baptist was the forerunner to Jesus Christ, but if anybody's story was more than a footnote, it's John's story. We see that in this 16th century painting by the Italian Renaissance painter Sebastiano del Piombo. The work is also argued to be a painting of Judith holding the head of an invading Assyrian general, Holofernes (although the obvious pitcher holding the head precludes this being the case.)
